Career Design FAQ

We get it—navigating a career change (or even just thinking about one) can feel overwhelming. Here are answers to the questions we hear most from people just like you.

Getting Started

What is career counseling or coaching, exactly?

Career coaching helps you understand what you want, what you’re good at, and how to turn that into a meaningful career. It’s a mix of deep self‑discovery and real‑world tools—like resumes, LinkedIn, interview prep, and strategic job searches.

Do I have to know what kind of job I want before I work with you?

Not at all. Many of our clients start with “I have no idea.” We’ll help you figure out what lights you up, what skills you want to keep using, and what kinds of roles align with your values.

What if I don’t even know where to start?

That’s one of the best reasons to reach out. You don’t have to come in with a plan—we’ll help you make one, step by step.

Mindset + Motivation

I feel stuck and scared to make a change. What if I fail?

Feeling scared is normal. But staying in a job that drains you has its own cost. We’ll work with you to build a realistic plan that doesn’t involve “starting over”—just moving forward with clarity and confidence.

I’ve tried job searching before and just ended up more confused. How is this different?

This isn’t about applying to 100 random jobs. We teach you how to search smarter—targeting roles that fit you using personalized strategies that actually work.

Is career coaching like therapy?

Nope. Coaching is future‑focused. We help you take action, explore your options, and build momentum. Therapy is great for emotional healing; we’re here for career clarity and change.

What We Help With

Can you help me with my resume and LinkedIn—even if I hate writing about myself?

Absolutely. We help you create materials that reflect who you really are and what you want next—not just a laundry list of past tasks.

Will this work if I have no experience or took a break from work?

Yes. Whether you’re just starting out, switching careers, or returning after a break, we help you highlight your strengths and tell your story in a way that resonates with employers.

I don’t know my strengths or what I like—can you still help?

Yes! We’re great at helping you figure that out. We’ll guide you through questions and exercises to uncover what matters most to you.

I’m used to picking jobs based on what others think I should do. What if I don’t want to make the wrong choice again?

That’s exactly why we exist. We help you tune out the noise and build a path that’s based on your values—not someone else’s expectations.

Common Concerns

What if I’m not sure I’m “enough” to invest in this kind of help?

That’s something we hear a lot. But here’s the truth: you are enough, and your career matters. Investing in yourself isn’t selfish—it’s smart. You deserve support, clarity, and the chance to design a life that feels good.

I’ve never heard of career coaching before. Is this really a thing?

Yes—and it’s more common than you think. Lots of people work with career coaches when they’re navigating change, looking for more meaning, or just need a plan. We help make what feels messy feel manageable.
